About Rudford Farm's

Rudford Farm’s was born from a dream idea. Having been successful in the food industry for many years we wanted to create something special from the ground up.

Firstly we wanted a farm, where we could farm in partnership with the environment and nature. After searching for two years we found the ideal place! A semi derelict farm that had nothing done to it other than the grass mowed, but sadly it had also been used as a builders tip. On the plus side, it had a lake and river frontage.

During the first year, we removed over 1400 tons of illegally dumped rubbish, we cleaned out the lake and discovered a silted up duck pond which we also restored. We bought some rare breed sheep Dorset Horned and three separate flocks of rare breed hens, Faverolles, Marans and Crested Cream Legbars all to be “Free Range”. To finish the year we planted 5000 English Hardwood trees.

In the second year Rudford Farm’s as a brand was born. This is a brand that will never be in the supermarkets as we feel strongly that we should support the small and independent retailers.

We combined our venison and butchery businesses into the farm produce. So we now offer the very best of English Lamb, Wild Venison, Wild Boar, a range of Artisan Jams, Chutneys, Marmalade and our very own Honey. We also achieved another ambition, that of being not only “Carbon Neutral” but to become “Carbon Negative”. To this end all electricity used on the farm is from wind and solar panels and all water used is from our rainwater harvesting system. Which now means we are totally self sufficient in power and water and well off the grid.

We finished the year by planting another 4000 trees across the farm. All of them were English hardwoods, and we stocked our lake with native English Brown Trout.

In the future, we want to complete the planting of trees during 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons. We will continue to build the “Brand” whilst maintaining a genuine field to fork experience, continuing the support of the small and independent retailers.
